The 19C Centre is pleased to announce that the library have signed up to a trial of the Wellesley Index of Victorian Periodicals (1824 – 1900) for February 2020. We encourage University of Birmingham staff and students researching anything related to the nineteenth century to make the most of this fantastic resource during the trial period.
The Wellesley Index can identify specific Victorian periodicals in order to locate book reviews, quotes and articles from authors, as well as gauging broader contemporary attitudes. You can browse the index by author, pseudonym, keyword or periodical title.
‘The vast majority of articles written for Victorian periodicals were published anonymously, or under pseudonyms. The Wellesley Index identifies the authors of articles within 45 major Victorian periodicals, and provides a bibliography for each contributor. It incorporates the Curran Index of corrections and additions to the original index.’- The Wellesley Index
