<\/p>\nAs the summer term came to an end, the BEAR team invited 5 teams of students from Computer Science to take part in a series of High Performance Computing (HPC) challenges. The event was designed to give undergraduate students access to the support and technical knowledge of the BEAR team, and to promote a career path into the exciting world of HPC.<\/p>\n
The teams worked together for 3 days, facing a series of practical, hands-on tasks, with opportunities for bonus points if they were feeling really keen! The challenges were both software and hardware-related, and included calculating the value of Pi on the BlueBEAR supercomputer, designing a HPC cluster, deep learning, high-speed networking, and running array jobs.<\/p>\n

Based in the amazing space of the Main Library Training Room, the teams worked hard for their points (and huge amounts of pizza!), with great prizes for the winners supplied by Lenovo. We welcomed external speakers from Lenovo<\/a>, Mellanox <\/a>and OCF<\/a> to provide input on HPC technologies and the range of career paths available to students.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n This was a fantastic collaborative event, giving students a great opportunity to work together and gain experience of using HPC systems – good for the CV!<\/p>\n Congratulations to the winning team and huge thanks for their support to Lenovo, Mellanox, OCF and Library Services.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" As the summer term came to an end, the BEAR team invited 5 teams of students from Computer Science to take part in a series of High Performance Computing (HPC) challenges.
