Anne Green, Donald Houston and Rebecca Riley presented on \u2018Changing labour supply and economic inactivity in the West Midlands\u2019 and Chris Millward and Anne Green presented on \u2018What are the public policy options for the WMCA to capitalise on its university strengths?\u2019<\/li>\n<li>On 26<sup>th<\/sup> September, Matt Lyons presented to the Welsh Government\u2019s Welsh Economic Statistics User Group. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.wales\/welsh-economic-statistics-user-group-26-september-2023\">Can R&amp;D policy help rebalance the UK economy? A multi-regional input-output approach<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong>Events \u2013 presenting work\/speaking engagements<\/strong><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>Dr Sara Hassan presented a paper titled \u201cCo-producing urban transport policy with communities, a route to decarbonise transport\u201d at the Royal Geographic Society Conference in London 30 August to 1 September 2023. See link to conference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rgs.org\/research\/annual-international-conference\/programme\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Dr Sara Hassan presented her paper titled \u201cCommunities in Energy Transition: Planning for Decarbonisation and Net Zero in the UK\u201d at the UK Ireland Planning Research Conference 2023 Planning on a Crisis Footing in Glasgow 4-6 September 2023. See link to conference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gla.ac.uk\/schools\/socialpolitical\/research\/urbanstudies\/events\/planningresearchconference2023\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Dr Sara Hassan sat on a panel discussing Engaged Urban Pedagogies sharing her recently published book chapter \u201cCo-production and the pedagogy of exchange: Lessons \u200e\u200efrom community \u200e\u200eresearch training in Birmingham\u201d at the UK Ireland Planning Research Conference 2023. See link to the book chapter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uclpress.co.uk\/products\/180288\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On 9th September, Simon Collinson gave a keynote presentation on \u201cUniversities + Business: Manufacturing Partnerships for Inclusive Regional Development\u201d at the 19<sup>th<\/sup> International Symposium on Global Manufacturing and China (GMC23). This is an annual series of meetings hosted by the Institute for Manufacturing at the University of Cambridge and Zhejiang University, in Hangzhou China. Drawing on examples from the University of Birmingham\u2019s collaboration with local firms in the West Midlands he outlined how stronger partnerships can improve the growth prospects of regional economies.<\/li>\n<li>Abigail Taylor presented work with Anne Green, Hannes Read and George Bramley on \u2018Addressing Regional Inequalities in the UK\u2019 at the CIPFA, Public Finance Live 2023 conference on 14<sup>th<\/sup> September in Edinburgh.<\/li>\n<li>Fumi Kitagawa presented a paper \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ju.se\/center\/cense\/conferences-and-workshops\/17th-regional-innovation-policies-conference-2023.html\">Linking STEM Assets as Innovation Intermediaries in Local R&amp;D Ecosystems: Lessons from the West Midlands Region in the UK<\/a>\u201d at Regional Innovation Policies Conference, Jonkoping International Business School, 21-23 September 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h6><strong>Look ahead to the coming months\u2026<\/strong><\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>City-REDI \/ WMREDI will be hosting a fringe event at the Labour Party conference on 9<sup>th<\/sup> October.<\/li>\n<li>City-REDI will be hosting the Birmingham Economic Review on 26<sup>th<\/sup> October with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Local and Central Government Anne Green and Abigail Taylor presented work on \u2018Place-based employment support: learning from Connecting Communities in the West Midlands\u2019 in the\u00a0Department for Work and Pensions\u00a0(DWP) Learning and Development series on 12th September 2023.
