{"id":82,"date":"2016-10-11T23:50:53","date_gmt":"2016-10-11T22:50:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/cityredi\/?p=82"},"modified":"2017-05-08T16:16:30","modified_gmt":"2017-05-08T15:16:30","slug":"bricks-concrete-and-steel-a-look-at-birminghams-future-commercial-and-residential-property-and-local-infrastructure-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/cityredi\/bricks-concrete-and-steel-a-look-at-birminghams-future-commercial-and-residential-property-and-local-infrastructure-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Bricks, Concrete and Steel \u2013 A look at Birmingham&#8217;s future commercial and residential property and local infrastructure development"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>City-REDI is delighted to invite you to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.birmingham.ac.uk\/schools\/business\/events\/2016\/november\/bricks-concrete-and-steel.aspx\">Bricks, Concrete and Steel \u2013 A look at Birmingham&#8217;s future commercial and residential property and local infrastructure development<\/a>, as part of the Economic and Social Research Council&#8217;s Festival of Social Science, hosted at the University of Birmingham.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Running from\u00a0<strong>08:00am-11:00am <\/strong>on <strong>Thursday 10 November 2016, at KPMG Snow Hill <\/strong>(1 Snowhill, Snowhill Queensway, B4 6GH), this ESRC Festival of Social Science workshop will bring together developers and policy-makers from across the city<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Housing and availability of quality commercial land is a key condition for growth and City-REDI\u2019s work has demonstrated that the area faces considerable constraints.<\/p>\n<p>Discussions with policy-makers such as the City Council, Local Enterprise Partnership and West Midlands Combined Authority, and the analysis currently provided through the City-REDI partnership with KPMG, highlighted the local region\u2019s development challenges and key issues emerging from the public debate and academic research are a lack of housing to attract the employment base needed to achieve growth forecasts and the associated infrastructures.<\/p>\n<p>This workshop, led by Professor John R.
