The event will be held from 08.00am-10.00am on Monday 12 December 2016 at Birmingham Library.

This event comes as part of the Resolution Foundation’s major new investigation into living standards in our cities. It will explore the unique challenges faced and successes enjoyed in the West Midlands Metropolitan Area, and how the new Metro Mayor can use their new powers to be the driving force behind a new era of inclusive prosperity.

In the wake of Brexit and as we look toward the first ever Metro mayoral elections next May, England’s cities are in the spotlight. From the Northern Powerhouse to the Midlands Engine and beyond, the future of our economy will depend on the strength of our cities.

But there are huge economic inequalities both between cities and within cities. How should Metro Mayors promote strong, shared growth? And how can wider economic leaders in business, local authorities and universities support this drive for higher city living standards?’

During the event, leading local politicians, academics and business leaders will debate the key policy issue for the West Midlands. The Resolution Foundation will also present fresh analysis of the area’s economy and living standards.

Confirmed speakers include;

Andy Street, Managing Director of John Lewis and Conservative candidate for West Midlands Mayor

Siôn Simon, MEP for the West Midlands and Labour candidate for West Midlands Mayor

Beverley Nielsen, former regional CBI director and Liberal Democrat candidate for West Midlands Mayor

Simon Collinson, Director of the City-Region Economic Development Institute, University of Birmingham

Stephen Clarke, Research and Policy Analyst at the Resolution Foundation

David Willetts, Executive Chair of the Resolution Foundation

The event is free to attend, though it is requested that you please register your attendance here.

Monday 12 December 2016

08.30am-10.00am (Refreshments from 08.00am – breakfast provided)

Library of Birmingham, Meeting Room 101

Broad Street

Birmingham

B1 2ND

City-REDI is pleased to announce the Living standards across the West Midlands Metro Area event, organised and delivered by the Resolution Foundation.
