Over a career spanning six decades, as well as solo work, he has collaborated with John Lennon, Kiki Dee and George Michael and, in more recent times, Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/goodbyeyellowbrick1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1972\" width=\"150\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/goodbyeyellowbrick1.jpg 439w, https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/goodbyeyellowbrick1-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/goodbyeyellowbrick1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/goodbyeyellowbrick1-250x250.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 85vw, 150px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Producing more than 30 albums (and some great album covers!) since 1967, including \u2018Goodbye Yellow Brick Road\u2019 and \u2018Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy\u2019, his single collection is extensive, including \u2018I\u2019m still standing\u2019, \u2018Sad songs (say so much)\u2019 and \u2018Candle in the Wind 1997\u2019, a re-working of his earlier version (1974) which he performed at Princess Diana\u2019s funeral in 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/captain-f.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1973\" width=\"145\" height=\"145\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/captain-f.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/culturalcalendar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/70\/2022\/02\/captain-f-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 145px) 85vw, 145px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond his musical career, he is an HIV\/AIDS charity fundraiser and established the Elton John Aids Foundation in 1992, which has raised over \u00a3300 million since its inception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was knighted by the Queen in 1998 for his services to music and charitable services and in 2019 he received the Legion d\u2019honneur, France\u2019s highest civilian honour, from President Macron who called him a melodic genius and praised his work on behalf of the LGBT community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1976 he became chairman and director of Watford Football Club.
