Wilkie Collins was an English novelist and playwright born in 1824. He was an early pioneer of detective fiction and mystery stories having written over 30 novels, as well as plays and short stories.<\/p>\n\n\n

He is perhaps most well known for two novels, The Woman in White <\/em>and Moonstone, <\/em>both of which are considered pioneering texts. Moonstone <\/em>is often considered to be the first true detective novel and The Woman in White <\/em>is the classic sensation novel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is associated with fellow English novelist, Charles Dickens. The influence of Collins can be seen in Dicken’s novels A Tale of Two Cities <\/em>and Great Expectations <\/em>which employ more suspenseful plot structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
