To (badly) paraphrase Lord Sugar, \u201cI am retired (not fired!)\u201d.<\/p>\n

After just over five years at the University of Birmingham, preceded by 25 years at the University of Sussex, even though it doesn\u2019t feel that I am old (or wise!) enough, today marks my retirement day and my farewell post for the Cultural Calendar.<\/p>\n

It has been beyond a pleasure to be involved with writing for the Cultural Calendar as part of my role as Student Experience Officer in the School of Languages, Cultures, Art History & Music (LCAHM). I have learned so many new things about how different cultures celebrate, interesting tales of folk whose anniversaries we have marked, enjoyed blogs by student and staff members alike.<\/p>\n

Thank you to the Student Experience Ambassadors over the years who have submitted posts \u2013 and have helped me to manage the ever-increasing number of posts that we schedule for your delight and edification!<\/p>\n

Over my time working on the Cultural Calendar, we have celebrated such a diverse range of people and events \u2013 from Bagpuss to Black History Month, Rupert Bear to Raksha Pandan, Left Handers\u2019 Day (I am one of the 1 in 10) to Loneliness Awareness Week, St Patrick\u2019s Day (half of my genetic make up is Northern Irish) to Saraswati Puja and World Chocolate Day (something of a fan) to World Portuguese Language Day \u2013 I hope that there has been a little something along the way to pique people\u2019s interest.<\/p>\n

A few of my favourite things are strewn throughout this farewell post.<\/p>\n
