This year\u2019s theme is \u2018Beyond Silence,\u2019 highlighting the importance of looking beyond common misconceptions about deafness. The week aims to embrace the rich experiences, identities, and contributions of Deaf individuals in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Beyond Silence\u2019 also encourages a greater understanding of the various methods of communication used by Deaf and hard-of-hearing people. These include British Sign Language, lip reading, written communication, and assistive technology. By recognising these alternative forms of communication, the theme sheds light on the social, cultural, and professional barriers that many Deaf individuals face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deaf Awareness Week therefore advocates for improved accessibility, inclusivity, and equal opportunities. This year\u2019s campaign calls on individuals, organisations, and communities to actively work towards substantive change. Some examples of this include promoting BSL learning, improving workplace accessibility, ensuring equal access to education, and creating more inclusive public spaces.
