This foundational document was ratified by the five permanent members of the Security Council\u2014France, The Republic of China, the Soviet Union, the UK and the US\u2014and then by the majority of the 46 other signatories on the 24<sup>th<\/sup> of October 1945. The United Nations day celebration first occurred in 1948, and has been utilised as a means for remembering the historic founding of the United Nations worldwide ever since.<\/p>\n<p>To commemorate United Nations day the University of Birmingham Cultural Calendar Team have organised events and stands both on and off campus for students and staff at the University to partake in. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A flag raising and Lord Mayor Reception at the Birmingham Council House<\/li>\n<li>Pop up stands across campus with information about UN, our events on the day, and VR experiences.
