Dare to Try

I am Zhihuang Li, a sophomore majoring in Applied Mathematics with Economic and Statistics at Jinan University-University of Birmingham Joint Institute. For me, college life is a brand new beginning. When you meet opportunities and challenges, you have to dare to try. During the two years of college life, I took an active part in various activities, including sports, academic activities and exchange activities.

Sports

To improve our quality of life, we should all have a healthy body. Every year, the school holds a large number of sports activities, including basketball, football and so on. As the captain of the dodge team, I led the team to get the third place in the school. And as the main force of the college basketball team, I participated in the freshmen cup basketball game and won the fourth place. In the daily training and competition, all teammates forged a deep friendship. In addition, the student union holds Sports Day every year. The competition is organized by the class, so that all students can release their learning pressure by participating in interesting sports.

Study Hard

The main duty of college students is to study. Students not only learn knowledge in class, but also gain knowledge in various academic competitions after class. In terms of academic activities, the college will hold academic lectures regularly. By inviting famous professors and scholars from all walks of life from all over the world, we can see things from different perspectives and learn a lot of knowledge. The school also holds various competitions, such as research contests, where we use our expertise to help local villages solve problems and contribute to rural revitalization. In addition, the Student Union also organizes Morning Reading activities, committed to creating a strong learning atmosphere and encouraging students to study well.

Communication and Study

As one of leaders of the J-BJI (Student Union, I get a lot of opportunities for communication both inside and outside the school. I appreciate every opportunity to communicate, because they are the platforms for us to learn from others. I am also glad to take those opportunities to share the story of J-BJI with my new friends. During the summer vacation, I had the honour to take part in the ancient silk culture tour organized by the school. During the trip, I experienced different local customs in different places and had a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture. What’s more, I made a group of good friends from all over the world.

At the end of May, I took part in the Global Alumni Gathering at the University of Birmingham China Centre as a volunteer, and got to know many excellent alumni. They all made good achievements in their respective fields, which greatly inspired me. They not only shared interesting information about their time at the University of Birmingham, but also actively answered our questions, such as internship opportunities, overseas study experience, working time balance and so on, which benefited us a lot.

I hope that in the next two years in J-BJI, I can make some achievements. I hope today I am proud of J-BJI, and tomorrow I will be proud of J-BJI.
