Guidelines for Submission of Mobile Apps – Sunday 21st Feb 2016

Published: Posted on

The final  submission deadline is Sunday 21st February 2016 (this has now been extended from the original deadline of Friday 19th February)

Please see below for instructions on what and how to submit your work at this stage:

For working prototypes or working apps:

  • Please email the executable files of your app in a zip file to itinnovation@contacts.bham.ac.uk. Please make sure that  the zip file contains ALL dependency files linked to your app, so that we can run it from our device for testing purposes. If the size of your app is too big, a Dropbox shared folder could be used. Please include the Dropbox folder link in your email.
  • iOS: If your app is developed on iOS, please add our device UDID when you are provisioning your profile so that we can install it on our testing devices.
  • If  your app is already published in an app store, please also send us the link to  your app.

For app designs:

  • Email your design to itinnovation@contacts.bham.ac.uk
  • If your are using a web-based design tool and you have an online version of your design, send us also a link to your design.

What happens next:

Once your apps or designs are submitted, they will all be evaluated by a panel of experts from across the university. Based on that evaluation a number of entries will be shortlisted to make it to the final. The authors of the shortlisted apps/designs will be invited to the SMAC Judging and Awards Ceremony  to present their work to a panel of experts from industry and academia. Our industrial sponsors will be part of this panel. This is a very exciting moment of the competition because it will allow you to demo your work to a supportive and interested audience. Placements, awards and certificates will be given to the competition winners on that date. There will be several prizes and placements available.

Please note that the judging panel will only see your ideas submission form, and then they will evaluate the apps on our testing devices and based on your own demos on the presentation day. If shortlisted, try to make your presentations as informative, engaging and fun as you can. Be creative! You can continue to work on  improving your app and fixing any bugs if you feel necessary after the submission deadline. You can also  start to prepare for your presentations. We will send you further details regarding presentations to all shortlisted candidates as soon as possible. We will also be announcing the dates for the Judging and  Awards giving ceremony soon. Please keep an eye on the website for the latest on the competition.
