Innovation Fest 2018 – Birmingham City University

Innovation Festival is in its fifth consecutive year at the Birmingham City University. It is an annual event to showcase of projects from the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment at the Birmingham City University. This year, IT Innovation team at the University of Birmingham were invited as judges to attend the fest.

The fest took place on Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st May and was held at Millennium Point. The first day is open to the public and visitors (schools and college groups are invited to attend the event),  academia will also mark the projects and give students feedback on this day; the second day is for industry judges to come and check out the students’ innovations. Prize and award ceremony also happened at the end of the second day.

There were 97 prototypes in total. These prototype were created by 1st year and final year students. First students participate in group with a team size of 4-5 team members, whereas the final year students take part in the fest individually.

We were quite impressed to see the innovative idea and amount of work that students have produced through participating the event. This event has encourage the students to tackle real problems with research and innovation, and to engage with industrial and develop themselves in all kinds of aspects.
