{"id":332,"date":"2016-10-30T14:42:57","date_gmt":"2016-10-30T14:42:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/itinnovation\/?p=332"},"modified":"2018-09-25T15:40:59","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T14:40:59","slug":"emerging-technology-etech-competition-2016-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/itinnovation\/2016\/10\/30\/emerging-technology-etech-competition-2016-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Emerging Technology (eTech) Competition 2016-2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The<strong>\u00a0Emerging Technology Competition (eTech<\/strong>) is a new initiative that aims to attract innovative ideas and incentivize the innovative use of emerging technologies by undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Birmingham.<\/p>\n<p>The competition is organised by the IT Innovation Centre (ITIC) in IT Services and builds on the success of the\u00a0<a class=\"sys_0 sys_t1616476\" title=\"Student Mobile App Competition 2015-2016\" href=\"https:\/\/intranet.birmingham.ac.uk\/it\/innovation\/Student-Mobile-App-Competition\/StudentMobileAppCompetition2015-2016.aspx\">Student Mobile App Competition<\/a>\u00a0that we ran for the previous 5 years.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>eTech Competition<\/strong>\u00a0is open to ALL current undergraduate and postgraduate students at the university. You can enter as an individual or as a team. You will be expected to produce a video and a working prototype to demo the innovation value of an emerging technology of your choice and its impact on one of the areas below:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Education and Life at Uni<\/li>\n<li>Health and Well being<\/li>\n<li>Energy and the Environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Examples of emerging technologies including mobile app design and development, gesture controlled technologies such as Kinect and Leap Motion, drones, cyber security, 3D printing, artificial intelligence, robots, augmented reality, immersive technologies such as Oculus Rift, and any other emerging technology of your choice.<\/p>\n<h3>How to Enter<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Email\u00a0<a class=\"sys_16\" href=\"mailto:itinnovation@contacts.bham.ac.uk\">itinnovation@contacts.bham.ac.uk<\/a>\u00a0to register interest.<\/li>\n<li><strong>By Friday 9 December 2016:<\/strong>\u00a0submit a short report describing the emerging technology you will be using and the innovation value of your idea in your area of choice. [<a class=\"sys_17\" title=\"etech-form\" href=\"https:\/\/intranet.birmingham.ac.uk\/it\/innovation\/documents\/public\/etech-form.docx\">download the ideas submission from here<\/a>].<\/li>\n<li><strong>By Friday 24 Feb 2017:<\/strong>\u00a0submit a working prototype and a 2-minute video explaining the innovation value of your idea and its impact in your area of choice. Be creative and make it fun!<\/li>\n<li><strong>March 2017<\/strong>: Judging and Awards Ceremony<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Shortlisted entrants will be invited to present their ideas to a panel of expert judges from industry and academia at the competition final.
