At the beginning of May, Application Services’ Business Analysis (BA) team attended a course and passed their exams to achieve an internationally-recognised qualification in BA. They were joined by colleagues from Quality Assurance (QA) and the Project Office.

Who are our Business Analysts?

The BA team is headed up by Sarah Barrett, and consists of Chris Palmer, Jas Dhanjal, Vidya James, Bruce Hart and Mark Hill.

On the course, they were joined by Ishtiaq Qureshi and Paul Coles from QA, and Sophie Tonino and Anya Davoren from the Project Office.

What does a Business Analyst do, in ITS?

Our Business Analysts get involved in projects early on in the lifecycle, to understand the business problem and gather information regarding business needs. With input from BA, the focus is on what a successful outcome will look like for the business – rather than just what the solution to the problem is. When the BA team is involved in projects, the project deliveries are more likely to meet the Business’ needs.

Business analysts:

  • Establish, build and nurture relations with business customers, suppliers and project teams
  • Assist the business is spotting process efficiencies
  • Work with the business to understand business issues so projects can be established to improve productivity or meet compliance regulations
  • Process mapping, requirements elicitation, documentation and management
  • Enables collaborative working and the sharing of information
  • Can act as a consultancy for the business

What is the qualification they have achieved?

The team attended the BCS (Chartered Institute of IT) Modelling Business Processes course, and by passing the exam, they achieved certification in this subject.

This course forms part of the International Diploma in Business Analysis – an industry-recognised certification which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and capabilities of an effective Business Analyst.

How will this benefit ITS?

The joint training, with members of staff from BA, the Project Office and QA, allowed colleagues from different areas to learn a common modelling language together; this will provide consistency in approach and understanding across ITS.
