IT Services does Welcome Week

Published: Posted on

The University’s Welcome Week activities kicked off on Saturday 21st September, with IT Services’ staff helping thousands of students start their University adventure. For several weeks leading up to the event, significant planning and preparation had taken place to prepare us for this coming week.

On Saturday, the campus was looking its stunning best (although we’ve had some bad weather since which has offered its own challenges), and the IT Services’ teams were amongst the first on site.

The IT Service Desk

Staff from the Service Desk setup and manned the ITS stand in the Welcome Marquee, connecting with new students and showcasing the University’s IT capabilities.

Professional Services Front Office Team were busy setting up and supporting the equipment and vital systems needed for Academic Services to support student enrolment.

The Network team were roaming the grounds checking that the Wi-Fi was performing optimally, Cecil even roped his daughter in for a bit of work experience.

Behind the scenes many people were keeping an eye on systems, manning the IT Service Desk in the Library, taking remedial action where necessary, providing incident support and being available on call just in case.

As ever the commitment of staff involved was fantastic. Overall, the event was once again a great success, a few niggles here and there but teams dealt with them fantastically. Students were welcomed into the University community, equipped with important knowledge about the services ITS has to offer.

Once again it was great to witness the positive feeling from other University staff supporting the event, and our new incoming students, we even had a special guest pop by to offer thanks. I’d like to extend thanks, on behalf of IT Services, to all those involved in making Welcome week a huge success. Well done!
