Get comfy: Home DSE assessments

Published: Posted on

All University home workers should undertake their own Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments, using an ergonomic checklist. This will help make sure that you remain comfortable during your working day, and don’t get injured – or exacerbate any existing injuries or health conditions.

Our Health and Safety and Building Coordinator, Dominic Cross, has collated some documents to help you to ensure the optimal conditions at your desk at home. You can find the University’s DSE Checklist and policy on DSE, and a DSE Checklist from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the Files tab in the Welfare channel within the IT Services Collaboration Space.
DSE Helpful Hints diagram: How to ensure your perfect workstation setup. Your arms should be relaxed by your side; your head should be balanced, not leaning forward; the screen should be approximately an arm's length from you; the top of your screen should be about eye level; you should sit back in your chair, ensuring good back support; your forearms should be parallel to your desk; your feet should be flat on the floor, or on a foot rest; there should be space behind your knee, between the back of your knee and the chair. Always remember to move throughout your working day to promote good health. Info provided by posturite.co.uk
