Christmas is going to be a little different for us all this year. We usually run a Christmas shoebox collection for the young people living in St Basils facilities around the city, but had some concerns around the logistics of running this collection this year. To make things simple, we’ve decided on a Christmas voucher scheme instead.
Help make Christmas special for young people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, this year, by buying a gift voucher for them to treat themselves.
How it works
- Buy a gift voucher at a shop – or order one online.
- Put the voucher in a Christmas card, hand written by you.
- Hand (or post) in your card and voucher to Jane Adams at Elms Road Reception by Friday 11 December.
- Too much effort? Just order your voucher online and have it delivered directly to Elms Road Reception. Jane has a stash of Christmas cards and will write a festive message and put the voucher in for you!
What you need to know
Do:
- Make sure your vouchers are suitable for a young person.
- Think about who you’re buying for. They may not have much money of their own to spend, so buy a gift card they can use without having to top up with their own funds.
- Examples of suitable vouchers include: Boots; Superdrug; Amazon; a coffee shop like Starbucks or Costa Coffee. You can also get gift cards for use at a variety of retailers, such as the Love2shop card.
- Spend about the same as you would on the contents of a shoebox. Guidance is around the £10 mark but you can spend more if you want to.
- Get your voucher to Jane by Friday 11 December so we have time to collate them all ready to deliver to St Basils the following week.
Don’t:
- Buy a voucher for an expensive restaurant or clothing brand.
