New Starters

Please give a warm welcome to our new starters!

June 2018

Chris Broomfield
Applications Operations Manager
Computer Centre, Elms Road

I have replaced Nic Doran – who is now in the role of Head of End User Services – as Applications Operations Manager. I previously worked for Cooperative Energy as the Service and Application Support Manager, line managing the application support and system admin teams. I invested a lot of time in embedding ITIL principles into the team, developing process and introducing Kanban for internal project tasks.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter, and our dog, Dolly. We enjoy going for long walks through the local countryside – in particular, the Clent Hills, Kinver and the Wyre Forest.

Sam Harrow
IT Business Partner
Computer Centre, Elms Road

I studied BSc Natural Sciences (Maths and Chemistry) here at the University of Birmingham; after graduating, my career centred on retail technology. I started out on the Technology Leadership graduate scheme at Tesco, working on a range of customer facing projects including electronic shelf labelling and automated queue counting. I then joined Accenture as a Technology Consultant, working with Argos to roll-out their digital store format prior to the Sainsbury’s take over. In 2015, I then joined ALDI to kick-off their transformation, working in a new department set up specifically to bridge the gap between the business and IT. This set me up nicely to become a Business Partner back at Birmingham!

I live in Birmingham and try to enjoy all the city has to offer, but often find myself down in London or elsewhere catching up with my friends, many of whom are fellow Birmingham graduates.

Feel free to drop me a line to say hello, and you can find me on LinkedIn here.

Felix Ikechukwu Azige
IT Innovation Specialist
Innovation Centre, ERI Building

I have joined IT Services from New Core;  there I was working on BizTalk technologies, integrating Oracle Fusion Cloud with on-premises applications like Banner, Library and ServiceNow.

I’ll be working in the IT Innovation Centre on a number of projects, including the development of chatbot prototypes using IBM Watson – a question-answering computer system, which will be capable of answering questions posed in natural language.

Graham Knight
Storage and Virtualisation Specialist
ERI Building

I started my IT career at Birmingham City University as an apprentice IT Technician. I worked at BCU for 13 years in total, working my way up to my most recent role there, Senior 3rd Line Support (Infrastructure).

I really enjoy playing sports – I play for the Old Halesonians Hockey Club’s First Team. I also play squash, tennis and golf – when I can fit them in around playing (or recovering from) hockey!
