{"id":133,"date":"2019-09-19T15:42:10","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T14:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/mds-outreach\/?p=133"},"modified":"2019-09-19T15:42:10","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T14:42:10","slug":"launch-of-mds-pathways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/mds-outreach\/2019\/09\/19\/launch-of-mds-pathways\/","title":{"rendered":"Launch of MDS Pathways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We had an absolutely fantastic turnout at the launch of our <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/mds-outreach\/2019\/03\/01\/mds-pathways-mentoring-programme-attracts-alumni-impact-funding\/\">MDS Pathways<\/a> programme in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences this week. After a <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/mds-outreach\/2019\/08\/22\/a-big-boost-for-widening-participation-in-the-college-of-medical-and-dental-sciences\/\">bumper year<\/a> for the College in recruiting 152 students via our Pathways to Birmingham widening participation programmes, we welcomed a fantastic cohort of year 1 students who will work with nearly 50 mentors from later years across our UG programmes. The mentors will support the new students during their transition to university and throughout their first year. Over 100 students participated in our launch event creating quite a buzz in the College in the week before Welcome Week. Our new year 1 students had the opportunity to spend time with their mentors, to meet other students on the programme and importantly enjoy the coffee and cake on offer in our Med Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-137\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.bham.ac.uk\/mds-outreach\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2019\/09\/IMG_2313-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2016\" height=\"1512\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The launch event is just the first in a series of professional development activities which will take place across semester 1 and 2.
