We caught up with 2024 MSc Business Management graduate Lalitha about what she has learnt since graduating…

Briefly describe your role

I’m currently a Customer Success Executive at OnceforAll. Before that, I gained valuable experience through several roles at the University of Birmingham and Instudents, where I developed my skills in content management, data analysis, and social media engagement. In my current role, I manage daily customer interactions using Salesforce and ChurnZero, ensuring smooth transitions, timely responses, and creating targeted communication campaigns.

What is the biggest mistake you have made since graduating and what have you learned from it?

The biggest mistake I made since graduating was underestimating the importance of work life balance. I was so focused on excelling at my new job that I often overlooked taking breaks or setting boundaries, which led to burnout. What I learned is that taking care of yourself is crucial for long term success. It’s essential to carve out time for relaxation and personal growth, as a balanced life fosters creativity and resilience.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

The best piece of advice I received was: “Every job teaches you something valuable.” Initially, I had my heart set on specific roles, but I realized that even jobs that weren’t my top choice offered invaluable lessons and skills. This advice helped me embrace every opportunity, knowing that each experience contributes to my growth and prepares me for future challenges.

What have you learned since graduating that could be helpful to other graduates like you?

Since graduating, I’ve learned that adaptability is key. The job market is constantly changing, and being open to new roles and industries can open doors you never expected. For instance, I started in marketing but transitioned into customer success, which has broadened my skills and perspective. So, be flexible, and don’t be afraid to pivot if an opportunity aligns with your strengths and interests.

    Can you recommend us something?

I’d recommend approaching the job search, especially after graduation, like a race where persistence is key. Until you reach that final stage, don’t stop! There will be many challenges and distractions pulling you back, but it’s crucial to stay focused and not give up. Have a clear goal and work tirelessly towards it, as this journey demands extreme dedication and emotional stability. Avoid wasting time on unnecessary stress and instead, channel your energy into progressing step by step, knowing that each effort brings you closer to your destination.
