Shaurya Sinha, (Master of Public Health, 2024) completed a B-Experienced Internship with InStudents as a Community Outreach Intern and shares her highlights in the role and why the she would recommend the experience to other graduates!
1. I was able to apply my skills to real-world experiences and gradually gain more responsibility in the role.
I decided to apply for a B-Experienced internship because I wanted to gain meaningful, practical experience alongside my studies. The opportunity stood out due to the organisation’s strong social mission and the chance to work in a role that would allow me to build and apply my skills in a real-world setting. InStudents is a values-driven organisation focused on education, inclusion, and
creating positive change within communities and as part of my role, I supported outreach and engagement activities and gradually took on increased responsibility as my role developed. I was really keen to learn, contribute and grow professionally and so this internship was a great fit!
2. I got to work with a collaborative and supportive team and even get the opportunity to build and develop my leadership skills.
As part of my internship, I was given a high level of ownership over my work and trusted to manage tasks independently. As the internship progressed, I was also given the opportunity to lead a small team for a short period, which helped me develop confidence, leadership, and decision-making skills. There was a lot of flexibility in the role too and the guidance provided by the organisation, including from the founder, created a really positive and encouraging learning experience.
3. I would definitely recommend a B-Experienced to other graduates!
I would highly recommend a B-Experienced internship to other graduates. The experience helped me strengthen key transferable skills such as communication, independent working, prioritisation, and time management and these skills directly supported me in securing my current role, as I was able to demonstrate practical experience, responsibility, and impact during the recruitment process.
