New Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) Note on Unpaid Care.

This POSTnote provides up to date figures on the numbers of unpaid carers across the UK, and the amount and type of care they undertake. It summarises evidence on the impacts of providing unpaid care on carers’ education, employment, finances, health and wellbeing, and personal and social relationships.

The POSTnote also reviews the different types of support available for carers and evidence on their effectiveness.

The POSTnote is freely available on the UK Parliament POST note website at: https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/POST-PN-0582

  1. Interestingly the Report makes no reference to the ‘spill-over’ effects upon carers of interventions ‘aimed’ at sufferers. Any such intervention will impact upon well-being of the unpaid carer either positively or negatively or a mixture of both.
