Student Mobile App Competition 2014-2015 Winners Announced

The Demos and Award Ceremony took place on Wednesday 25th March at the Digital Humanities Hub in the ERI Building from 9:00 to 14:00. This is the chance for the participants to present and demo their apps to a panel of experts from industry and academics and to a wider audience.

Winners for the Student Mobile App Competition 2014-2015 announced:

Winner of the Best Idea: Catch-a-Computer app developed by Paree Bhanu from Business and Anam Khokhar from Law. This app provides a portal for UOB students to access computers in an efficient manner by reserving them for an allocated time of 5 minutes. Winner were awarded with Deutsche Bank placement and certificates. (presentation download)

Winner of the Best App: Explore the New Lapworth Museum app developed by Hei Yin Wong, Ting Yuen Lam, Grace Chek Yan Wong from Computer Science. This app uses augumented reality; navitagating (map direction) ; and information (location, opening hours, latest news). Winner were awarded with IT Innovation Centre placement and certificates. (presentation download)

Winner of the Best App: Lapworth Museum app developed by Joseph Faulls and Adedayo Omosanya from Computer Science. This app is for all ages and will strive to give the user an experience which immerses them into the prehistoric world. Winner were awarded with IT Innovation Centre placement and certificates. 3rd Prize: Omnia app developed by Jay Chauhan from Chemistry. Omnia connects people and brings people together for events and activities. Omnia is a user run database of all events happening within a certain area. This can range from charity fund raisers to university fairs, public fireworks displays to university sports team matches. Jay was awarded with IPAD mini and certificate.

High Commendation: Birmingham’s Mental Health app developed by Rebecca Bird from chemistry. This app helps students with mental health conditions monitor/manage their mental health and its impact on their studies (and vice versa!). Rebecca was awarded with iPad mini and certificate. High Commendation: iMind Your Mind! app developed by Tibui Atanga from Social Policy. It is an app as an online/portable clinic for people who are suffering from anxiety, depression, bipolar and any other mental health illnesses. Tibui awarded with amazon voucher and certificate. Commendation: Alumni Finder app developed by Wei Wu from Management.  This app aims to provide an alternative approach to current human based alumni management network for students and graduates finding each other for career choice, academic discussion and entrepreneurial collaboration. Wei was awarded with certificate.(presentation download)

Commendation: TravelWise app developed by Krishna Patel and Thomas Li from Computer Science. This app provides users with vital vaccination and general health information for travel destinations. Information would be provided by the NHS. They were awarded with certificates. (presentation download)

Commendation: The Crew app developed by Hussien Elmi from Software Engineering and Kenny Ma from Computer Science. This app allows students who want to work on creative projects while studying to meet other students who share the same passion and can utilise each others skillets to create a range of amazing work during their study, and once they have worked on enough projects they can show off all the projects they worked on and all the things they achieved in order to get a graduate job, placement or even to receive funding for much larger projects for much larger creations. They were awarded with certificates.
