Values based recruitment will increase in the health professions, with new graduates needing to demonstrate the right set of values for NHS etc.
Employers may increasingly demand a more generic type of health care practitioner who has transferable skills to be used in different environments.
For healthcare professions, many learning outcomes are likely to be similar (led by the professional bodies). Caring health professionals with specific interpersonal skills will still be needed.
However, students will likely learn less factual knowledge and more around generic/transferable ‘skills’ and ‘behaviours’ including confidence, leadership, entrepreneurship, problem solving, and critical evaluation.
Although there will be an increased emphasis on skills such as the ability to find information rather than having a particular body of knowledge and understanding, it will not be possible for universities to focus on this alone. Employers will still demand that students have particular knowledge and understanding.
