Feminist Translation Network Symposium and Translation Tag Events by Eleanor Fillingham (CRI 2025)

For the last six weeks I have worked with the Feminist Translation Network in preparation for their event in Norwich. Throughout this experience, I have not only had opportunities to improve both my administration and academic skills, but I have also been able to explore my own interest in feminist translation.

The main part of my work has been in the more practical side of the event, meaning that I have sent emails, put together a blog post and recorded a podcast as an output for the event. However, within this work I have been able to do my own research and learn more about the topic of feminist translation. This has been incredibly valuable not only in the sense that it has been good research practice, but as feminist translation directly ties into my degree (BA Classics).

A memorable day for me as an intern was the Norwich event itself! I had never been to Norwich before, so it was exciting to explore a new place. The event was in Dragon Hall, which is the home of the National Centre for Writing and is an incredibly beautiful Medieval building. I started the day off with recording a podcast episode with one of the panellists from the event, Jennifer Ingleheart. In preparation for this, I completed a LinkedIn Learning course on podcast recording and formulated the questions I intended to ask. After this, I was able to be in the audience for the other parts of the event, which were a symposium discussing feminist translation tag and a translation tag of Sappho 31 and Catullus 51.  The discussions were interesting personally, but also helped me to develop my ideas surrounding the blog that I created.

My advice to future interns in similar roles would be to reach out to your internship leads; they are the experts and will be happy to help and to make a plan for the work you want to do from the beginning of your internship. By doing these things, you will make the most of your internship experience!
