In July 2018, Maria Allon joined forces with Dr Stephen Forcer, head of the Modern Languages department, for the research project ‘Understanding Extremes: Neuroaesthetics, Radicalism, and Experimental Francophone Culture’. This post reflects on Maria’s time on the scholarship, and what she has learnt about how Islamic terrorism is reported in the Francophone world, and whether works of experimental film on the topic can be used in neuroscientific study.
