We’ll be discussing Fandom Studies via Henry Jenkins’ Textual Poachers: Television Fans and Participatory Culture (but only the introduction). It’s available through FindIt, but if you need access email Georgie for a PDF.
Questions to think about while reading the introduction:
- What do you make of Jenkins’ identification as both a fan and academic?
- How does this apply to your position within your own research?
- What are your thoughts on his use of fanfiction, fanart, etc, as materials to be close read in service of reception theory?
