Join us on the 28th November for our Romance Reading Group session on Akwaeke Emezi’s novel You Made a Fool of Death with your Beauty. In the Simon & Schuster edition’s Reading Group Guide, the author states that they had “been reading romance since [they] were a preteen, and [they] wanted to write a story that had a happy ending. Genre,” they continue, “is a loose concept for [them], and because [they] read across genres, it feels natural to write across them as well.” So how does this novel fit with our understanding and expectation of romance?
