Hi all!
On Wednesday 30th October 2024, from 5-7pm GMT, we will be discussing ‘(Un)safe Sex: Romancing the Vampire’ by Karen Backstein, as published in Cinéaste, Vol. 35, No. 1. It’s available through JSTOR, and FindIt@Bham.
While you’re reading, it would be great if you could think about the following:
- What do you make of Backstein’s comments on Twilight’s genre evolutions? Do you agree? (E.g. horror, romance, fairy tale)
- Have vampires’ move towards being brooding, Romantic heroes been a good/bad/etc. move for culture?
- Do you agree with Backstein’s ideas about Twilight (and other vampire fiction)’s female gaze?
Even if you don’t have time to get to the reading, we’d still love to have you! (Though it’s even shorter than normal this week)
