Pop Culture Theory Group (5pm, Wed 20th Nov)

As per a suggestion a while back, the next session of PCTG will focus on Affect Theory, particularly in video games. To accomplish this, it would be great if you could read Paolo Ruffino’s article ‘There is no cure: Paratexts as remediations of agency in Red Dead Redemption 2’. If you don’t have time to read, please do still come along, and have a think about the reading questions regardless:

  • Is agency necessary in video games? Is it important to a good gaming experience?
  • Think about an Affective response you’ve had to a piece of media. How does it compare/contrast to the responses described in Ruffino’s piece?
  • How does Ruffino’s methodology/argument/etc. connect to your own research?
