Pop Culture Theory Group (5pm, Wed 29th Jan)

Following a trip to see Nosferatu (2025) last week, and a productive discussion with PCTG members Kit and James about Robert Eggers’ medievalist intentions, I thought we’d start off the year with a session on the Medieval in popular culture, or Neo-Medievalism.

If you get the chance, it would be great if you could read both short pieces attached, which tackle different approaches to the topic: firstly, the (4.5 page) introduction to Helen Young’s The Middle Ages in Popular Culture, which covers the media side of things; and then Richard Utz’ pithy (2 page) article ‘Don’t be snobs, medievalists!‘, which covers the academic context.
