The next session of PCTG will be held on Wednesday 3rd September, 4pm-7pm.
The plan is to celebrate the (slightly belated) 50-year anniversary of Jaws by watching the documentary Sharksploitation (2023) written and directed by Stephen Scarlata. Sharksploitation explores the cultural impact of the ‘sharksploitation’ genre in horror, a subgenre which uses sensationalised depictions of sharks and shark attacks for commercial success.
The documentary is 106 minutes, so the plan is to start watching it from 4pm, have a short break, and then discuss it for an hour from 6-7. If you’re joining us online, you will need to get access to your own copy of Sharksploitation. It is available on Amazon for free as part of the Shudder subscription, which is offering a 7-day free trial (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/video/detail/B0BZWFTBR7/ref=atv_dp_share_cu_r). You’re welcome to join us online and press play at the same time as us ‘watch-party’ style or, if you prefer, you can watch it separately and join us at 6pm for the discussion. Equally, for both in-person and online attendees, if you don’t fancy watching it but would love to join for the banter, you’re very welcome to join at 6pm anyway!
