Following a great return to the Page Breaks programme a couple of weeks ago our next meeting will be on Thursday 13th November at 4-6pm.
Ahead of this meeting we’re going to take a break from reading in order to listen – specifically the plan is to listen to an episode of the ‘Books and Rhymes’ podcast series. The particular episode, on Psychogeography and with the poet Caleb Femi, can be found here and is summarised as follows:
What is psychogeography? How does architecture affect our emotional, mental, and psychological wellbeing? Caleb Femi, a poet, educator, and multidisciplinary artist whose debut collection of poetry, Poor, celebrate and interrogate youth culture and masculinity, while the articulating the complex lived experiences of working class migrant communities in the UK join us in conversation. We use the music of Burna Boy, J-Hus, Wizkid, Giggs, Sunny Ade, and more to explore the problematic relationship between architecture and social stratification, the importance of finding and reading resonant poetry, the conversational between poetry and photography, and the philosophy that undergirds his work.
So, please listen to the podcast ahead of our meeting and come ready to share your thoughts. As well as what’s covered in the podcast itself we might consider how the spaces of research and writing affect our psychological states and how the relationship between our words (written and spoken) and the spaces we inhabit might be more crucial than we think.
As with our last meeting there are two ways of attending the session:
- In person in Room G13 of the Arts Building.
- Online at https://bham-ac-uk.zoom.us/j/6447557473
With very many thanks to one of our PGR community (PhD student Deborah Lyons) for suggesting this topic and podcast-listening format!
