With the recent passing of Bonfire/Guy Fawkes Night, I have been thinking about the depiction of the past in popular fiction and the use of historical periods in political discourse. We’ll be meeting to discuss the nature of temporality in popular culture and the way writers use the relationship between the past and the present to convey certain messages.
