WORKSHOP WITH THE DESCENDANTS OF THE BASQUE CHILDREN EVACUATED TO THE UK DURING THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR AS WELL WITH THOSE MORE BROADLY INVOLVED IN THIS CHAPTER OF HISTORY
The working group Memory as Transgenerational Care (Transmisión Transgeneracional de la Memoria), formed by members of various UK academic institutions and the Association for the Basque Children of the UK as well as artists working in various disciplines, cordially invites you to participate in our workshop on the transmission of memory through generations, to be held at The Southampton City Art Gallery (Gallery 3) on 21st September 2023 at 11.00am.
During the workshop, we will create a space for reflection and conversation in which you will be able to share your memories and those of your family members. In order to facilitate communication, we ask descendants of children, teachers, auxiliaries, those who helped run the colonies, raised funds, or were involved in any way, to bring an object related to the person whose memory you would like to honour during the discussion: this could be one of their belongings, a photograph, a document, or any other item that will help to evoke your loved one.
Your testimonies will help us to create an exhibition on the experiences of evacuated Basque children, in which we will also include archival material and artistic representations of their experiences.
