2021 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the German federal state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) by the British military government. Located in northwestern Germany, it brought together the former Prussian province of Hanover with the states of Braunschweig, Oldenburg and Schaumburg-Lippe in 1946.
To mark this anniversary, the German public television broadcaster NDR broadcast Happy Birthday Niedersachsen yesterday, the full-length 90-minute documentary produced by Zentralfilm in Hanover and presented in German by University of Birmingham and Department of Modern Languages academic, Dr John Goodyear.
An on-campus showing of the documentary, hosted by the University of Birmingham’s Institute for German and European Studies (IGES), will take place on Wednesday 1 December 2021. Contact Dr John Goodyear for further details.
