Submitted by Caitlin, Student Experience Ambassador

4th May marks the centenary of the death of English writer and poet, E. Nesbit, and offers a chance to commemorate not only the woman herself but also the enduring impact of her literary contributions. Edith Nesbit, renowned for her children’s classics like “The Railway Children” and “Five Children and It,” revolutionized storytelling with her imaginative narratives and relatable characters. Her works continue to captivate generations, transcending time with themes of adventure, friendship, and the wonders of childhood. The centenary of her passing is a great opportunity to celebrate Nesbit’s legacy inspiring countless young readers’ imaginations.

She was also a political activist and co-founder of the Fabian Society, a socialist organisation later affiliated to the Labour Party.
