The 12th until the 20th of April 2025 is a time in which Jewish people will celebrate ‘Passover’. It is a major festival which commemorates the Exodus of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. It typically lasts for eight days (seven in Israel) and usually falls in March or April. It is celebrated with a variety of traditions and rituals, the most important is the Seder meal, held on the first two nights of the festival. During the Seder, families gather to read the Haggadah, a text that tells the story of the Exodus from Egypt. The meal includes foods such as matzah (unleavened bread), maror (bitter herbs), charoset (a sweet paste), karpas (vegetable), and z’roa (shank bone), each representing different aspects of the Exodus. Throughout the week of Passover, people attend religious services, recite prayers, and practise gratitude for their freedom and ability to receive redemption.
