Our next Romance Reading Group online session is based on Regency Romances.
This will be on Monday 4th April at 6pm GMT via Zoom, so save the date in your calendars! RSVP via: https://romancegroup.wixsite.com/home/event-details/regency-romances-bridgerton-special
This month, the Romance Reading Group will be focusing on all things regency! In light of Season 2 release on 25th March, our reading group will be discussing Regency romance and Season 1 of Bridgerton (to give you more time to watch it). Of course, as always, you don’t need to have watched Bridgerton, or even read Julia Quinn’s “The Duke and I” on which it is based. You don’t even need to like Regency romance…
Please join us to discuss the Regency romance genre, Bridgerton as a popular romance adaptation, and depictions of race, consent and sex(uality). Note that the discussion and the clips provided may be triggering (they include a scene of non-consensual sex) so please feel free to not watch and, during the discussion, mute and move away from your screen.
Some suggested clips:
- Bridgerton Love Scene
- Daphne’s sex dream scene
- Benedict’s party scene
- I burn for you, wedding night (without the undressing before which is also worth seeing)
- Simon and Daphne’s sex montage
- Non-consensual sex scene
- ‘Making love’ sex scene (towards the end of season one)
- Lady Danbury on love and race
…and Season 2 trailer
No need to watch or read anything in advance – these are just for guidance!
People are welcome from any university and/or country so feel free to share to friends and/or colleagues that you think would be interested in attending!
Hope to see you there!
