Our first Romance Reading Group online session this academic year is based on sequels. And Just Like That (2021), she was Mad About the Boy (2013).
This will be on Wednesday 19th October at 5:30pm GMT via Zoom, so save the date in your calendars! RSVP via: https://romancegroup.wixsite.com/home/event-details/reimagining-the-happily-ever-after-in-chick-lit-franchises to be automatically sent the Zoom link.
In this session, Charlotte will be presenting her 2022 PCA conference paper and opening discussions on the ‘happily ever after’ trope in both chick lit novels and sequel romances. On Wednesday 19th October at 5:30 BST on Zoom, Charlotte’s presentation will argue that the chick lit protagonists of franchises, like Sex and the City’s And Just Like That (2021) and Bridget Jones’ Mad About the Boy (2013), are not permitted the conventional ‘happily ever after’ so crucial for the romance genre. We will then have time for overall conversations of both the Bridget Jones series and Sex and the City series: from Botox to friendship, from death to dating again, we hope to see you in our lively and informative discussion on Wednesday 19th October!
