As always there are exciting developments over here at EDIT HQ. We are making great progress with the transcribing and checking of the manuscripts. Both E1 and E2 are well on their way to being transcribed, and proof-reading has started, and transcription work has already been started on T and Q. The technical side of things is developing well, as Zeth assures us, and there has been much talk of servers, mirroring and other jargon, which I take as an excellent sign. We have circulated the CfP for our upcoming colloquium, which will take place in Oxford in November and some abstracts have already been sent in to Aengus. The team also won a prize in a competition for videos relating to public engagement a couple of weeks ago for our promotional video which you can see at
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDxa-Fmib58 , and some of the team went to collect our prize from Professor Alice Roberts.
Staying with the theme of public engagement, the team have been discussing strategies to train potential crowdsourcers, to work alongside the training materials we already provide on our transcription page http://www.textualcommunities.usask.ca/web/estoria-de-espanna/wiki. This led to a few team members meeting with Jag, one of the university’s e-learning technologists. What a job title! Christian and I have also had a training session in how to set up open courses on the university’s virtual learning environment, with a view to providing a short guide to transcribing as a crowdsourcer for the Estoria de Espanna Digital project. Preparations for this course are well underway, and we are looking forward to being able to announce that it has gone live, which we hope to do before too long. If you can’t wait that long, go to the ‘Getting Started for Crowdsourcers’ page on our section of the Textual Communities website (the address is above) to have a look and maybe even start transcribing for us!
For now, keep your eye on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/estoriadeespanna , our Twitter feed @estoriadespanna and of course, here on our blog.
