This morning, I met with Alberto Franceschi, a PhD student of mine who works at Juventus Football Club. A good portion of our meeting was me asking him about the structures in place at the club in terms of staffing and departments.
Alberto is a great student, and I’m sure a great practitioner but it’s important I understand the kind of environment he works in. This cultural understanding is different from club to club and there can be even bigger differences as we look from country to country.
An understanding of such differences is important when looking to optimise practices on the ground. In a few weeks in our High-Performance Sport MSc, Liam Anderson PhD will be speaking about some of his experiences of working in different organisations, and in different countries.
If we truly want to be impactful, we have to consider this kind of detail. I’m sure it’ll be a great session and another great example of the experiences from Graduate School of Sport and Professional Practice staff feeding into our curriculum.
