A fascinating afternoon with Dr Lesley McBride & Emily Ross sharing their experiences of ‘Women Working in Elite Sport.’ Lesley covered her journey into elite men’s rugby & how this influenced her career decisions and ultimately her PhD focusing on neck strength measurement in Elite Men’s Rugby. Lesley demonstrated the practical application of her PhD research & how to use the Vald ForceFrame to collect meaningful neck strength data for rugby union players. Lesley highlighted the need for further research in the area & hopefully inspired a few thesis projects.
Emily Ross (Head Physiotherapist for England Red Roses) gave an inspiring account of her journey into elite sport & her passion for what she does. Emily discussed the process of building a world class sports performance & medical team & what it takes to be a world No. 1 Women’s rugby Team, including the highs & lows. Emily gave our students great insights into the personal & professional attributes required to be successful in elite sport. Emily offered an open Q&A to all the attendees & provided some pearls of wisdom & honest reflections from her career thus far.
