The IT Innovation Centre ran an ‘Art and Technology’ workshop as part of the recent Arts & Science Festival, on Friday 16 March. The event was a great success – so much so that, at the end of the session, the audience didn’t want to leave!
What did the workshop consist of?
The first part of the session consisted of a presentation, delivered by IT Innovation Centre interns, about art and technology through the ages – and how the two have influenced each other.
Some examples were then shown of the new media available with which to create art – followed by hands-on demos of Google Tilt Brush, using an HTC Vive virtual reality headset.

The IT Innovation team also provided demos of a virtual museum tour, using an Oculus Rift headset; 3D scanning with HP Sprout; and gesture control using Leap Motion.

The event sold out; there were limitations due to the size of the room and the nature of the workshop, in which the audience were given the chance to trial the different technologies themselves.

Can I have a go with the technology?
The IT Innovation Centre are planning a number of follow-up sessions for IT Services staff. You’ll be able to try out each of the technologies on offer at the Arts & Science Festival event – so keep an eye out for the Lunch and Learn invitations!
