An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has now been installed in Elms Road and can be found behind reception. An AED is a small electronic device that gives a high energy electric shock (defibrillation) to the heart through the chest walls to someone who is in sudden cardiac arrest.
The device is designed to allow trained or untrained people to provide lifesaving defibrillation in the event of an emergency. The quicker the patient can be given shocks in combination with CPR, the greater the chance of successful resuscitation. The machine gives clear spoken instructions on how to use it.

The University has installed a number of AEDs around campus. Some are located externally where any member of the public can access them and others are located in buildings on campus.
You can find a list of where all the campus AEDs are located here.
