The Birmingham University Awards for Tremendous Achievement (BUAFTAs) awards ceremony took place on Friday 16 February.
The evening kicked off with a swanky pre-awards drinks reception in the marble foyer of the Aston Webb building. IT Services staff did not disappoint in their stylish outfit choices for the event – catching up over prosecco and trading predictions of award winners for the night ahead.

The drinks reception was followed by the awards ceremony in the Great Hall. The Great Hall was decked out lavishly for the occasion, reflecting the theme of the night – ‘Musicals’ – in the red curtains and ‘tragedy and comedy’ masks. The entertainment followed this theme too, with flash mob performances and musical medleys from the University’s own student talent. There was also a delicious three course meal provided to soak up the prosecco.

IT Services had two shortlisted nominees this year. These were Richard Thomas, Application Services – nominated for the Award for Exceptional Customer Service – and Matt Warwick, IT Service Desk – nominated for the Award for Continued Excellence. Sadly, both were robbed of the winning spot – but with over 800 nominations this year, it was truly an achievement to reach the shortlist.

You can find out who the winners of this year’s BUAFTAs were on the BUAFTAs intranet page. If you bought raffle tickets, be sure to check whether you’ve won a prize; over £5,000 was raised through raffle ticket sales and donations, for transplant research here at the University.
