IT Innovation Centre feature in BBC One Midlands Today — watch the video!

Published: Posted on

On Wednesday 2 November, the IT Innovation Centre featured in a BBC One Midlands Today news clip about Gesture Controlled Technology and the Arts.

At the IT Innovation Centre, Sean Duffy explained how motion technology can be used in different ways and how a computer can be programmed to respond to body movements using Microsoft’s Kinect technology. This is now being used to bring gaming technology and dance together for a performance at the Birmingham Hippodrome, allowing the body movements of dancers to determine the lighting on stage.

This was a great opportunity to gain some external awareness of the work we are doing in the IT Innovation Centre. Hopefully, with continued focus on innovative and enabling technologies, there will be more external showcase opportunities like this in the future.

Thanks to Nandy for picking this one up – from initial contact to ‘on air’ in 30 hours. Great exposure for us (even if at the expense of my slightly embarrassing postures.)
Sean Duffy, Director of IT Services

This is the first time IT Services has been approached by the BBC to discuss emerging technologies. It highlights the value of IT Services as a leading centre of innovation.
