Dr Who at 60

23 November 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the first episode of Dr Who. Beginning with William Hartnell as the first-ever Time Lord, fourteen actors have gone on to play this iconic role, exploring the universe in the TARDIS (Time and Relative Dimension(s) In Space), combatting foes, helping people in need and generally just saving the universe. It is the longest running science fiction tv series in the world, with its fans, Whovians, all over the globe and beyond …

The Time Lord “transforms” into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally and the time-travelling nature of the plot means that different incarnations of the Doctor occasionally meet.

The Doctor’s various incarnations have gained numerous recurring enemies during their travels, including the Daleks and their creator Davros, the Cybermen and The Master.

Everyone has their own favourite Doctor, for me it is Patrick Troughton.

Should you wish to view a TARDIS, or at least the British Police Box on which it was modelled, then take a trip to Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings, Bromsgrove https://avoncroft.org.uk/ and visit their National Collection of Telephone Kiosks https://avoncroft.org.uk/avoncrofts-work/special-collections
