From Saturday 16 to Monday 18 September, IT Services (ITS) helped over 2000 students kick start their University adventure. Staff from the Service Desk manned the ITS stand in the Welcome Marquee, connecting with new students and showcasing the University’s IT capabilities – whilst the Professional Services Front Office Team were busy supporting the kit and vital services needed for Academic Services to support their student activities.
Significant planning and preparation went into Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week, for weeks in advance and involving many staff across ITS. With the increasing scale of the Welcome event, there were bound to be some teething issues – but as always, staff on the ground showed excellent customer service, resilience and commitment.
Fantastic support was also provided by many ITS staff behind the scenes – both officially on call and not! – with everyone playing their part in ensuring that any issues encountered were resolved as quickly as possible.
The ITS stand in the Welcome Marquee proved very popular with the freshers; they flocked around the stand to claim their free IT Services flask, connect to the WiFi and for the chance to win prizes! The new students were also eager to learn about the software and services that the University offers.
The Welcome event provided an important opportunity for students to meet and greet members of staff. Managers, Technical Analysts and casual staff were all out on display – proving that IT Services are a friendly and approachable bunch, who can interact with people as well as computers!
Overall, the event was a great success. Students were welcomed into the University community, equipped with important knowledge about the services ITS has to offer. One or two of them even won a prize in the process!
“It was great to witness the positive feeling from other University staff supporting the event – and our new incoming students – first hand. I’d like to extend thanks, on behalf of IT Services, to all those involved in making the largest Welcome event yet a huge success. Well done!”
